What is Fastag?
Fastag is a type of tag or sticker. It is mounted on the windscreen of the vehicle. Fastag works on radio frequency identification or RFID technology. Through this technology, cameras on the toll plaza scan the bar code of the stickers and the toll fees are automatically deducted from the wallet of Fastag. The use of Fastag does not stop a driver from paying toll tax. It is used to reduce the time spent on toll plazas and to facilitate travel.
Where can you take Fastag?
Fastag can be purchased both online and offline. Fastag can be purchased online from any authorized bank or e-commerce platform such as Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm. Apart from this, 23 Authorized Banks can also take Fastag from Point of Sale of Road Transport Office. According to NHAI, Fastags are available at 30,000 points of sale (PoS) across the country.
What documents are required to purchase Fastag?
Fastag can be purchased by submitting a copy of the driver's license and vehicle registration certificate. Banks also ask for copy of PAN card and Aadhaar card of users for KYC.
How to recharge Fastag?
The bank that has Fastag can be recharged online by visiting its website. Apart from this, recharge can be done through UPI / Debit Card / Credit Card / NEFT / Net Banking etc. If Fastag is linked to the bank account then the money is cut directly from the account. If Paytm wallet is linked to Fastag then money can be added directly from the wallet.
Fastag price?
The National Payment Corporation of India has fixed Fastag price at Rs 100. Apart from this, a security deposit of Rs 200 has to be paid. However, the rate of banks can vary. Many banks also offer FASTAG from time to time for free or moderate price to increase their participation.
Is fastag necessary?
Fastag is required to cross the toll plaza right now. From April 1, the government is also going to make fastag mandatory to buy third party insurance. In such a situation, fastag will also be necessary for vehicles which do not cross the toll plaza.
What would happen without fastag?
If you reach the Fastag toll plaza without paying a heavy penalty. This can be double the toll tax. Apart from this, penalty may also be imposed for crossing toll plaza through Damage Fastag.
What if Fastag Wallet does not have enough balance?
If your fastag wallet does not have enough balance, you can still cross the toll plaza. NHAI has implemented this facility to avoid the noises on toll plazas. However, this facility will be available only to vehicles in passenger segment like car, jeep, van. Commercial vehicles will not get this benefit. Tax will be deducted from the security deposit after the toll plaza is crossed. It will be replenished on the next recharge.
How many fastags in the country at this time?
There are currently over 2.54 crore Fastag users in the country. Fastag accounts for 80% of the country's total toll collection. Daily tolls of about Rs 89 crore are being collected through Fastag. NHAI has set a target of 100% cashless tax collection at toll plazas across the country.
